Regular Meeting
September 22nd 2014
Attending Members: Joe Colangelo, Mike Pinatti, Ed Taiman, and Bill Bilyak were in attendance.
Attending Non Members: Teri Gareau, Steve Davis, and David GIller were also in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:33 PM.
I. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the 8/4/14 WPRC meeting were reviewed and found to be in order. Ed Taiman moved
to accept the minutes, which was seconded by Joseph Colangelo, and accepted by all members.
II. GENERAL DISCUSSION:
There was no one present for general discussion.
III. DIRECTORS REPORT:
Teri Gareau reported the following:
• Bus Trips are scheduled for a Scallop Festival, Strawberry Festival, UCONN/Army Football, Radio
City, and a NYC Shopping Trip.
• Adult Basketball, Volleyball, and Fencing have started with reasonable enrollments.
• Pavilion rental for this fiscal year is $365.00 compared to $915.00 for the previous fiscal year.
• Halls Pond is closed on 8/17, and showed a loss of $1,981.73.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
A. David Giller and Steve Davis presented their plans for a basketball travel team for 5th and 6th
grade boys. They have designed their plan according to the WPRC rules for travel teams, and
have a tryout on September 29th.
B. Field reviews:
*Mike Pinatti suggested that a repair of the dugout seating for the Town Hall Fields may be
done by placing “L” brackets inside the dugouts, install the bench seating on the brackets and
bolting through the block walls for support with galvanized threaded rod.
*The RRAC and Town Office Fields both need additional netting above the backstops for
foul balls.
*The dugout seating at the RRAC can be made more useful and take less room in the dugout
if we cut off the rear supports vertically, push the seats to the fence, run a PT ledger board
below the seat, and fasten that to the fence and seat. It will provide at least another foot of
space in front of the seats.
*These projects are all focused on Little League field use. Before spring we should have a
LL representative available at a meeting to discuss the repairs, and involve the LL in
volunteering for repairs and assisting with funding.
The shed for the RRAC to house the irrigation system and be used for storage and
concessions has been funded by the CIP. Before the shed is ordered we need to present the
project at a Town Hall Meeting for acceptance. This should be requested ASAP. Mike
Pinatti and Joe Colangelo will meet with Derrick Dimmock to layout the shed location, and
review the excavation involved for shed placement and irrigation pipe relocation.
C. The scoreboard installation at the RRAC is not fully funded, but there is enough funding to
install the vertical posts for sign support and some infrastructure. This should be attempted
before it snows.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
A. No review of “summer programs” was available.
B. The RRAC shed Town Meeting request will be added as an agenda item for our next meeting.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
Ed Taiman motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Bill Bilyak. The meeting adjourned at 8:32PM.
The next meeting is scheduled for October 27th, 2014 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 6/24/14 Joseph C. Colangelo
